| What is the Buddy System? |
| Back by popular demand for this Season, we will accommodate a pair of
players who want to play together on the same team. The buddy system will link
the two players together for the draft. The players will be linked together in
the same way that siblings have been linked together in past years. The
buddy system is only for players in the Minor, Major, and Pony Leagues.
The Rookie League teams will try to honor requests for friends to play
together. The Colt League uses team formation rules for the Thurman
Munson League. |
| |
| How do I specify a buddy? |
| Both players who want to be linked for the draft (be
"buddies") must specify each other on the registration form. |
| |
| Must I have a buddy to register? |
| No! The buddy system is totally optional. Many players DO NOT specify a buddy
and find that they end up with 11 new "buddies" as the season goes on from the
new friendships formed between teammates. |
| |
| Can 2 brothers also have buddies? |
| No, sorry. Brothers in the same league will be linked together in the draft and
thus are already paired as "buddies". |
| |
| What happens if I have 2 buddies and the 3 of us want to play together? |
| Sorry, the buddy system only works in pairs. We want to help kids who might not
be able or willing to play without a buddy, but avoid "team-stacking". A group
of 3 or more friends may find the 2-buddy system limiting and there may be a
potential for hurt feelings. If this is the case, it is recommended that you
allow the luck of the draft to determine the teams and not use the buddy
system.
|
| |
| Can coaches kids have buddies? |
| Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Sponsors who have requested to coach/sponsor a
team automatically designate their players as buddies. i.e., If the Dad's
involved are Buddies, the kids are automatically buddies. If a coach or
assistant coach does not specify another coach, the coach's son may specify a
buddy like any other player.
|
| |
| How are teams formed? |
The Minor, Major, and Pony leagues use a blind draft system. For more
information see the
Team Formation Policy. |
| |
| I did not know about the buddy system at registration and did not specify
my buddy, what do I do? |
| Please send an email to the Registrar. See the "Contact Us" page for a list of
all WBL board members. The registrar will do his or her best to try and
accommodate you and your buddy, but will also need to receive an email from
both players! Please make all possible attempts to arrange the pairs of
buddies when the player is registered as it takes a lot of extra time by WBL
volunteers to match up the players. Absolutely NO BUDDY requests will be
accepted after Friday March 5th |
| |
| Can the Rookie League players have buddies? |
| Yes, the Rookie League commissioners try their very best to accommodate all
requests for player placement in the Rookie League.
