The WBL board regretfully informs you that our 2020 spring/summer baseball season for all REC players will not take place. Westlake Baseball League has been a part of the community for over 60 years and the safety of our community is our priority.
We have been in discussions with multiple area leagues and officials as well as executive board meetings and feel this is our best course of action. We don’t see where playing baseball with masks would be an option with the costs involved and how we could maintain a safe 6ft distance when it comes to youth baseball or require our players to provide their own equipment that cannot be shared with others.
p=. *This is a fluid situation and we will continue to follow the State of Ohio’s guidelines and will update appropriately. Current guidelines: https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/static/responsible/Baseball-Softball.pdf*
Westlake Baseball League would like to thank everyone for their patience during this time to allow us to plan and decide the best course of action for us to take this year. We are designed to allow all children to have the opportunity to have fun, participate and learn fundamental baseball skills. Participants should learn sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, fair play and self-confidence. The sports environment will be safe and well maintained.
As we are all adapting to changing schedules and lifestyles this year, we wanted to elaborate on our proposed late summer/fall ball season. As we will be limited on our normal practice time and scheduling for this season, we are implementing some changes to the way things have been done in years past.
First, please help us spread the word to surrounding communities to come join and play. Many may not have the opportunity to do so in their normal league this year. We are a non-profit organization that’s designed for players to play from all surrounding communities.
Second, this season the volunteer coaches and their kids will all be on the same team with the remaining players being chosen via a random lottery style draft that starts with the older kids in each division, then the younger kids with hopes to balance the teams as much as possible. I know many are familiar with our past buddy system, but we are all neighbors here and we want to encourage everyone to get out and meet new players.
We are diligently working on our Plan C of having a late summer/fall ball season for our Rec League. Registration will continue to stay open via www.westlake-baseball.com.
Assuming we can enact Plan C, all players originally registered will play in the league they were signed up for this spring/summer.Ex. Jack is currently in 6th grade playing in the Majors this spring/summer. Jack STAYS in the Majors league this fall, even though he will be in 7th grade this fall. *You will stay in the League originally registered.
New registrants, please put in the grade your player(s) is in for 2019/2020 school year…not the 2020/2021 school year.
Travel players are welcome to play in our late summer/fall ball league. There will not be a separate Travel League. This gives our Travel players a chance to play baseball for the season. Must register at www.westlake-baseball.com
We will know by July 1 if we can put late summer/fall ball league into action and will notify you promptly. All registered players will stay as registered with the goal of playing baseball later this year.
WBL does not typically offer a refund policy, but this year will be an exception. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and have already paid insurance fees and other fees for every Rec and Travel player.
Options for 2020 available after July 1, 2020:
If you need a refund because we either can’t play this fall or you know your player cannot play this fall at all, we will re-issue each individual registration fee, minus $20.00 back to your credit card. $20.00 fee per player covers the insurance costs and league fees we’ve already paid for the season.
Rollover your already paid player registration fees for the 2021 season. Only those going from 2nd grade Rookie league in 2020 to 3rd grade Minor League in 2021 would need to pay the $30.00 difference when we open 2021 registration. No additional fees are removed.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement of our organization. We strive to create a fun and developmental program for all ages. We hope to see you on the fields soon. Check out the pictures recently posted on our Facebook page of the new clover fields at Clague Playhouse.
